Your writing is killing your idea

Let’s face it: writing is not for everybody. Some people love it and have a knack for it, while others hate it and won’t even attempt it. Regardless of which side of the road you are on, a poorly written post can kill the best of ideas. Here are a few tips to help you make a statement with your words:

  1. Write a layout. Think about the structure of your post prior to start writing. Make sure you include your Intro+ Main Point + Conclusion.
  2. Write having your target audience in mind. For example, if your target audience is a group of women looking for nutritional advice on how to lose weight, think of topics that would be of interest to them, don’t write about tips for losing weight when you are training for a marathon.

  1. Don’t go out on tangents or add new information without closing the loop on the previous concept. Follow your layout. If the reader gets lost, they will most likely stop reading altogether.

  1. Use language that your audience can relate to. Don’t use complicated words or convoluted grammatical structures which will lead you to a tangled mess out of which it will be difficult to get out of, mainly because you will find yourself repeating ideas, and beating about the bush, and because the English language does not favorite long sentences. Point made.

  1. Avoid generalizations. Everybody knows this.

  1. Have fun! If you are having fun with your writing, chances are your readers will too and will come back for more!
